Launching a Blog

Some of the biggest problems in the trucking industry are driver recruiting and retention. The turnover rate for transportation carriers is ridiculously high, because it's hard being a truck driver. It's a thankless job for the most part. And when drivers feel they're being mistreated, they can easily hop to another company.
My team and I launched this blog for several reasons...
Google favors new content, so your chances of showing up in search increase when you feed your website blogs. Blog site = Search Engine Optimization strategy.
But at its core, we wanted to recruit drivers — and retain existing ones — by offering them valuable content to make their lives easier and give them something to connect with.
By the way, writing for drivers is no easy task. They're one of the most skeptical, anti-B.S. crowd of people you could ever have the pleasure to write for. Somehow, though, I came to love writing for them. I don't know why. I guess I just like getting to know people who are different from me?
I wrote most of the blog posts that are currently on the site (mostly everything in 2017 and backwards). The site's content spans five categories: Entertainment, Health & Wellness, Industry News, Life on the Road, and Real Driver Stories (biographical articles on U.S. Xpress drivers). So even though the blog is strictly for truckers, there's a wide breadth of topics that go beyond just driving.
All of this content serves to empathize with and humanize the drivers, making them feel U.S. Xpress understands their needs. And if a driver feels like a company takes care of its people, then that driver will be more likely to apply to that company — or stay with them for the long haul.
